Taiwan shares close slightly higher
Taipei, April 25 (CNA) Shares in Taiwan closed slightly higher following a day in which the main board remained within a narrow margin.
The weighted index on the Taiwan Stock Exchange or the Taiex closed up 12.22 points, or 0.11 percent, at 11,039.86, after moving between 11,006.68 and 11,046.77, on turnover of NT$122.9 billion (US$3.65 billion).
In the electronics sector, which ended up 0.03 percent, shares in Largan Precision Co., a supplier of smartphone camera lenses to Apple Inc., gained 1.93 percent to end at NT$4,760.
Contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the most heavily weighted stock on the local market, shed 0.56 percent to close at NT$267.5, while Hon Hai, also an Apple supplier, fell 0.12 percent to end at NT$86.8.
Shares in integrated circuit packaging and testing services provider ASE Technology Holding Co. rose 0.68 percent to end at NT$73.6, while fabless semiconductor company MediaTek Inc. fell 0.52 percent to close at NT$288.
The financial sector grew 0.02 percent in Thursday trading, with Cathay Financial Holding Co. registering a gain of 0.11 percent to close at NT$44.35, Fubon Financial Holding Co. falling 0.44 percent to end at NT$45.2, and CTBC Financial Holding rising 0.49 percent to end the day at N$20.6.
