CTBC Bank Indonesia Opens Semarang Branch to Strengthen International Network and Support Southbound Clients
CTBC Bank further expanded its overseas presence on December 9 with the opening of the Semarang Branch under its Indonesian subsidiary, PT Bank CTBC Indonesia. More than 80 guests attended the ceremony, including Ambassador John C. Chen, Taiwan’s Representative to Indonesia; Tias Retnani from the Financial Services Authority of Indonesia (OJK); Nita Rachmenia from Bank Indonesia; Huang Ma-yi, Chairman of the Chinese Association in Central Java; James T. Chan, Chairman of PT Bank CTBC Indonesia; Iwan Satawidinata, President Director of PT Bank CTBC Indonesia; Steven Huang, Head of CTBC Bank’s Southeast Asia Corporate Banking Division; as well as long-term clients and partners. The new branch marks a significant milestone in CTBC Bank’s commitment to deepening its presence in the Indonesian market.
Established in 1997, PT Bank CTBC Indonesia has grown into one of Indonesia’s top-performing financial institutions, supported by a solid capital base and stable operational performance. With total assets of IDR 26 trillion and 12 existing service locations across Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya, the new Semarang Branch in Central Java further strengthens the bank’s nationwide footprint. Semarang has emerged as a key hub for new Taiwanese investment and manufacturing expansion, positioning the branch to better serve growing business needs.
CTBC Bank has observed continued growth in Taiwanese investment in Indonesia, driven by the country’s population of 280 million, young labor force, and improving investment environment. Taiwanese companies have gradually shifted from labor-intensive sectors such as textiles and footwear to mid- and high-end industries including machinery, electronic components, automotive parts, precision manufacturing, and smart equipment. Investment in food processing, logistics, distribution, and other domestic demand–driven sectors has also increased.
Industrial regions such as Semarang, Surabaya, and Batam offer both labor advantages and export competitiveness, giving them dual value as domestic markets and export bases. These areas have become key hubs for Taiwanese firms in ASEAN, second only to Vietnam. The establishment of the Semarang Branch will help boost local economic activity and enhance financial support for clients.
CTBC Bank currently operates more than 370 service locations across 14 countries and regions. It has branches in Singapore, India, and Vietnam; subsidiaries in Indonesia and the Philippines; representative offices in Malaysia and Myanmar; and is the largest shareholder of Thailand’s LHFG Financial Group. With a comprehensive footprint across Southeast Asia, CTBC Bank continues to serve as Taiwan’s most international bank, supporting clients as they expand globally.
