Boss of problematic food co. detained
Taiwan’s probe into a cooking oil scandal intensified in mid-October. Following allegations that major food manufacturer Ting Hsin International Group and its subsidiaries have been using oil unfit for human consumption to make cooking oil sold to consumers in order to save costs, Taipei prosecutors searched one of the company’s offices on Oct. 16. They also searched the luxury home of the Wei family that heads the company and looked into their many property holdings and bank assets.
