MAC head warns China’s forcible takeover of Taiwan would threaten the U.S.

Chiu Chui-cheng, head of the Mainland Affairs Council, delivered a speech on cross-strait relations at a think tank in Washington, D.C. on Friday, warning that the security and prosperity of the United States would be directly threatened if Taiwan were forcibly taken over by China. As Taiwan’s top official on relations with China, Chiu also criticized Beijing’s continued efforts to reduce U.S. influence in the Asia-Pacific as it seeks unification with Taiwan, saying such moves aim to realize the so-called “China Dream.”
