Ko Wen-je sentenced to 17 years as supporters, opponents rally outside court

Former Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je was sentenced to 17 years in prison Thursday after being convicted of bribery and corruption charges linked to a real estate development project and three other cases. Ko, founder of the Taiwan People’s Party, arrived at the Taipei District Court in the afternoon as supporters and opponents gathered outside, with the former chanting that Ko was innocent and the latter saying Ko got what he deserved.
