Blackout hits more than 70,000 households in Miaoli, Taichung

Taipei, May 30 (CNA) An unexpected power outage occurred Wednesday afternoon, leaving more than 70,000 households in parts of Miaoli County and Taichung without electricity, according to Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower).

Su Ying-hsien (蘇英賢), Taipower Service Center's Miaoli Branch deputy chief, said the massive blackout occurred at 3:12 p.m. when a high voltage line at a power plant in the county's Tongxiao Township tripped.

A total of 70,391 households in Tongxiao, Yuanli, Sanyi and Tongluo townships in Miaoli and the neighboring Rinan village in Taichung suffered a power outage as a result, Su said.

He said power was restored at 4:38 p.m. following emergency repairs.
