Magnitude 5.3 quake hits NE Taiwan; no injuries reported yet

Taipei, Feb. 19 (CNA) A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit Yilan County in northeastern Taiwan at 10:47 p.m. on Monday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).

The epicenter of the earthquake was about 19.1 kilometers southwest of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 46.5 km, the bureau's Seismology Center said.

The strongest tremor, which posted an intensity of 5, was felt in Yilan's Niudou, according to the center.

The earthquake could be felt in most parts of the country, with an intensity of 3 temblor felt in Taipei. No immediate casualty or damage was reported.

A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit Hualien in eastern Taiwan on Feb. 6, leaving 17 people dead.
