Taipei, April 28 (CNA) The Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MOTC) has released a mobile app -- in both Chinese and English -- that gives detailed information about six favorite bike routes for travelers.

The app, prepared by the Directorate General of Highways under MOTC, aims to serve people interested in a biking tour of the Fulung- Toucheng section of Highway 2, Taroko-Wuling section of Highway 8 and Highway 14-A, Xindian-Wulai section of Highway 9-A, Taitung-Changpin section of Highway 11, Puli-Wuling section of Highway 14 and Highway 14-A, and Chukou-Alishan section of Highway 18.

Bikers can find information about accommodations, shopping, restaurants, festivals and "special interests" in the newly released app, which used to be available only on the highway directorate general's website.

Of special use to bikers is a "slopes chart" below each of the six routes which saves cyclists the trouble of taking notes with pen and paper -- information which they can use to adjust their schedules according to their physical condition.

Also, videos in the app guide provide guidance to potential bikers about narrow paths, jammed roads and falling rocks warnings along the way before they actually embark on the trip.
