Taipei, July 15 (CNA) A group of lawmakers will visit the United States on a six-day trip starting Monday to meet with U.S. government officials and members of Congress, Democratic Progressive Party lawmaker Liu Shih-fang (劉世芳) said Sunday.

During the visit, the group will call on House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, members of the Congressional Taiwan Caucus and other government officials, according to their travel itinerary.

After arriving in Washington D.C., the delegation will meet with Royce, Senator Cory Gardner, chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on East Asia, the Pacific, and International Cybersecurity, and Congressman Ted Yoho, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific, on July 17.

On July 18, the delegation will meet with Gregg Harper, co-chair of the bipartisan Congressional Taiwan Caucus, and other caucus members and visit Taiwan's representative office in the U.S.

They will attend a dinner banquet hosted by Stanley Kao (高碩泰), Taiwan's representative to the U.S., that night.

Liu said the trip was aimed at giving the U.S. more information on Taiwan's current situation, and cross-Taiwan Strait issues are expected to be discussed during their trip.

The two sides are also to discuss the Taiwan Travel Act, which encourages the exchange of visits by senior government officials of Taiwan and the U.S., and the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act, which includes provisions to help strengthen Taiwan's military capabilities, Liu said.

The delegation will consist of legislators across party lines, including DPP Legislator Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴), chairwoman of the Taiwan-U.S. Inter-Parliamentary Amity Association, which is organizing the trip.

Others in the group are Kuomintang Legislator Chiang Chi-chen (江啟臣), vice chairman of the association; KMT legislators Lu Yu-ling (呂玉玲), Lin Li-chan (林麗蟬) and Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安), and DPP lawmakers Liu Shih-fang (劉世芳), Lin Chun-hsien (林俊憲) and Yu Wan-ju (余宛如).
