Taipei, Dec. 20 (CNA) Opposition Kuomintang (KMT) Vice Chairman Chen Chen-hsiang (陳鎮湘) will visit Beijing later this week to hold a dialogue with the Communist Party of China (CPC), the KMT said Tuesday.

Chen, a former legislator and army commander-in-chief, will lead a delegation of senior KMT officials and members of the party's think tank, the National Policy Foundation.

On Dec. 23, Chen and his delegation will hold dialogue with a group of CPC officials led by Zhang Zhijun (張志軍), director of the Taiwan Affairs Office under China's State Council, the KMT said.

The meeting will focus on three main issues: exchanges between grassroots officials from the KMT and the CPC, exchanges between young people from the two sides of the Taiwan Strait, and protection of people's rights and interests, the party said.

According to the KMT, the goal of the KMT-CPC dialogue is to promote cross-strait peace and play a positive role in stabilizing cross-strait relations to enhance the wellbeing of people on either side of the strait.

On Dec. 24, the KMT delegation will join the heads of the eight KMT-led pan-blue municipalities at an event promoting Taiwanese agricultural products.
