New ROC ambassador presents credentials to Paraguayan president

Taipei, Oct. 20 (CNA) The new ambassador of the Republic of China to Paraguay, Alexander T.R. Yui (俞大雷), presented his credentials Monday to Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes.

After a ceremony held at Paraguay's Presidential Office, Yui held a brief meeting with Cartes, in which the latter extended a warm welcome to the new envoy, according to a statement from the ROC Embassy in Asuncion.

Cartes also said that he attaches importance to the friendship and cooperation that exists between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Yui extended President Ma Ying-jeou's (馬英九) regards to Cartes and pledged to do his best to further promote friendly bilateral ties.

A veteran diplomat, Yui served as head of the Geneva Office of the Cultural and Economic Delegation of Taipei before being named as the ROC's new ambassador to Paraguay, which is one of Taiwan's 22 diplomatic allies.
