Taipei, Oct. 8 (CNA) The No. 1 generation unit of the coal-fired Mailiao Power Plant in Yunlin County has been shut down since Saturday due to a pipe rupture, leading to a loss of 600,000 kilowatts of power.

The damage is being fixed, with the unit expected to be restarted for a trial run on Oct. 10, said Hsu Chao-hua (徐造華), deputy spokesman for state-run Taiwan Power Co. (Taipower), on Sunday.

The unit is expected to run fully-loaded and rejoin the grid on Oct. 11 if everything goes well, Hsu said.

Despite the decline in the power supply, electricity supplies will remain stable and reserves will be adequate because of lower demand during the Double Ten National Day holiday.
