Taipei, July 12 (CNA) Taiwan-based tech giant Asus on Tuesday launched its ZenFone 3, the first of three models in that smartphone series, in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau.

The 5.2-inch Zenfone 3 is priced at NT$7,990 (US$248), while the 5.5-inch model costs NT$9,990, the company said at a product release in Taiwan.

Meanwhile, the 5.7-inch ZoneFone 3 Deluxe will hit the market soon with a price tag of NT$15,990 and the 6.8-inch ZenFone 3 Ultra will be released on July 27 at a price of NT$17,990, according to the company.

Following the release of the three models in the ZoneFone 3 series, Asus said, it will start mass production, aiming for 1 million units per month.

Asus plans to start with shipments of the ZoneFone 3 model to Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, and by August will ship all models to the three markets as well as to Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.

Shipment will later be expanded to Japan, Italy and the United States, the company said, adding that it is hoping the ZoneFone 3 will help boost its third-quarter sales growth.

The company is also scheduled to launch a 9.7-inch ZenPad 3S10 tablet at a price of NT$10,990 and a Transformer 3 Pro hybrid notebook at NT$41,900 in August.

Asus posted second-quarter consolidated revenue of NT$93.9 billion, a 15 percent decline from the first quarter and a 5 percent decrease from the same quarter last year.

However, the figure was within the company's revised target of between NT$90 billion and NT$95 billion.
