Taipei, Aug. 12 (CNA) Taiwanese tennis ace Latisha Chan (詹詠然) will become the world's top ranked women's doubles player next week after reaching the finals of the Rogers Cup in Canada with her Russian partner Ekaterina Makarova on Saturday.

The second-seeded Chan and Makarova beat sixth seeds Andreja Klepac of Slovakia and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez of Spain 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the semifinals to book a spot in Sunday's final against Ashleigh Barty of Australia and Demi Schuurs of the Netherlands.

With the victory, the 28-year-old Taiwanese earned a spot in the Rogers Cup women's doubles final for the first time in her long career and also picked up enough ranking points to move into the top spot in the world in women's doubles.

She moved up to second in the doubles rankings this past week after winning the doubles with Czech veteran Kveta Peschke in the Mubadala Silicon Valley Classic on Aug. 5.

She will take the top spot next week from Timea Babos of Hungary after Babos lost her quarterfinal match in Montreal.

Chan and Makarova captured a tight first set when they broke their opponents' serve in the set's final game.

Neither team could pull away in the second set, but the Taiwanese and her partner needed a break in the 10th game to stay alive and even the set at 5-5.

They later won the tiebreaker 7-3, pocketing the final three points to clinch the match.
