Taiwan loses to Iran in FIBA Asia Cup (update)

Taipei, July 19 (CNA) Taiwan lost to defending champion Iran 79-89 Saturday, to become the runner-up at this year's FIBA Asia Basketball Championship.

This year, however, marked Taiwan's best performance in the tournament. Taiwan finished fourth last year after losing to Iran and South Korea.

During the final, Taiwan was down 21-26 in the first quarter but pumped up the action to tie with Iran 42-42 at half time, only to lose momentum and fall behind 62-66 in the third quarter. It was unable to recover in the final quarter.

Center-forward Quincy Davis III topped the team's scoring with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while guard Ray Chen registered 16 points and five assists.
