The Cross-Strait Entrepreneurs Summit in Nanjing.

Nanjing, Nov. 5 (CNA) Entrepreneurs on both sides of the Taiwan Strait will cooperate in a natural gas supply project in which Chinese suppliers will deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the coastal Chinese province of Fujian to the nearby Taiwan-controlled island of Kinmen.

At the third Cross-Strait Entrepreneurs Summit in Nanjing, a two-day meeting that ended Thursday, executives of the China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC, 中國海洋石油) and the Taiwanese Shinfox Energy International Inc. (台灣星崴) gave a briefing on the joint venture project.

Energy demand on Kinmen has continued to grow in recent years, thanks to the booming tourism industry. Since the shortest distance between Kinmen and Fujian is only 2.8 kilometers, it will be convenient for CNOOC's facilities in Fujian to supply the LNG.

Kinmen Magistrate Chen Fu-hai (陳福海) suggested that the Kinmen Kaoliang Liquor Inc. will be the first to get the gas supply from Fujian.

Under the joint venture cooperation framework, the CNOOC facilities in Fujian will also supply compressed natural gas, along with production technology.
