Death metal band performs Buddhist sutras

Taiwan is considered by many to be the center of Chinese Buddhism. The island has four major Buddhist institutions led by well-known Buddhist masters, as well as many temples and monasteries. But its young people have been less interested in Buddhism and other religions compared to older generations. That may change with a Taiwanese band’s unique invention – death metal Buddhist music. The band members look like metal heads, with either no hair or long hair, but they are accompanied by a long-time Buddhist nun and master and what they sing is not typical death metal music. CNA went to one of their concerts in Taichung before Level 3 social distancing restrictions were imposed. Take a look and you might be shocked.
