A first for Taiwan - gay couples marry in military wedding

Hundreds of couples have tied the knot at mass weddings held by Taiwan's military since 2014, but Oct. 30 marked the first time same-sex couples had participated in such an event in the country. Two same-sex couples were among 188 pairs who were wed in the wedding at Army Command Headquarters in Taoyuan City. They, the LGBTQ community and others saw this as a milestone made possible after Taiwan became the first country in Asia to legalize same-sex marriage in May 2019.
