What happened here 75 years ago?

Seventy-five years ago on June 19, 1945, 14 American soldiers captured by Japanese forces during World War II and held in the old Taipei Prison near present day Dongmen MRT Station, were executed by firing squad. They were among 25 prisoners of war (POWs) kept in the prison, which is currently a Chunghwa Telecom building. A ceremony was held last weekend by the Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society to remember the men and their sacrifice.
