Taipei, Jan. 21 (CNA) A magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit Chiayi County in southern Taiwan at 12:17 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The epicenter of the temblor was located 37.9 kilometers southeast of Chiayi County Hall, at a depth of 9.7 km, CWA data showed.
The quake's intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a seismic event, was highest in Chiayi County, where it measured a 6- on Taiwan's 7-tier intensity scale.
The earthquake also measured a 5- in neighboring Tainan City, as well as in Kaohsiung City, according to CWA data.
