
Taipei, Nov. 30 (CNA) Taiwan reported 17,727 new COVID-19 infections and 37 deaths from the disease on Wednesday, according to the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC).
The new cases represented a 1-percent drop from a week earlier, CECC data showed.
The deceased ranged in age from their 50s to their 90s. All but two had underlying health conditions, while 24 of them were unvaccinated against COVID-19, the CECC said.
Also on Wednesday, the CECC reported 82 new COVID-19 cases classified as moderate and 44 as severe.
Regional breakdown
Regionally, New Taipei reported the highest number of new cases with 2,817, followed by Taichung with 2,408 and Kaohsiung with 2,082.
Taoyuan recorded 2,020 cases, Taipei 1,615, Tainan 1,439, Changhua County 931, Hsinchu County 589, Pingtung County 558, Hsinchu City 519, Miaoli County 514, and Yunlin County 424.
Chiayi County had 314 cases, Nantou County 283, Yilan County 259, Hualien County 230, Keelung 217, Chiayi City 213, Taitung County 123, Kinmen 69, Penghu 37, and the Matsu Islands seven, the CECC said.
To date, Taiwan has recorded 8,313,366 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began in early 2020, including 37,718 classified as imported.
With the 37 deaths reported Wednesday, the number of confirmed COVID-19 fatalities in the country rose to 14,334.
