Local companies have voluntarily recalled a total of 20 million extended-release tablets of metformin, a prescribed drug for diabetes, since Taiwan's Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked suppliers of the medication to examine their products for the potential cancer-causing n-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) last year, an FDA official said Monday.
