Taipei, April 23 (CNA) Two Muslim prayer rooms, one for men and the other for women, have been set up at Linkou Chang Gung Memorial Hospital to meet the religious needs of Muslim patients, the hospital said Thursday.

The rooms are a first step toward building a Muslim-friendly environment, the hospital said.

The prayer rooms are about 16 square meters each and are equipped with Qurans, prayer rugs, and washing facilities and indicate the direction of Mecca.

There are also directions in Arabic in the hospital to help people find the prayer rooms.

The domestic Muslim population in Taiwan is 50,000 to 60,000. In addition, there are more than 220,000 foreign workers from Indonesia, a predominantly Muslim country.
