Taiwan's export orders see growth in first two months of 2025

Taipei, March 20 (CNA) Taiwan's combined export orders in January and February grew 11.9 percent from a year earlier, according to the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) on Thursday.

Export orders in February totaled US$49.45 billion, representing 5.3 percent growth from January or 17 percent growth when seasonally adjusted, and 31.1 percent year-on-year growth, an MOEA news release said.

In terms of exports, there were US$13.77 billion in export orders for information and communication products, which represented 31.8 percent year-on-year growth, while electronic products totaled US$19.63 billion, or 48.6 percent growth, according to MOEA data.

Accumulated export orders in the first two months totaled US$96.42 billion, with strong performances in the aforementioned two sectors.

Total orders for information and communication products totaled US$25.83 billion in January and February, representing growth of 6.1 percent year-on-year, the MOEA said.

The ministry explained that demand in the artificial intelligence (AI) industry and the cloud service industry spurred orders of servers and networking devices.

Meanwhile, electronic product orders in the first two months reached US$37.35 billion, the highest ever for that period and representing growth of 21.8 percent from last year.

The ministry said that business for AI and high performance computing continued to expand, driving orders for integrated circuit (IC) design and manufacturing, as well as semiconductor from distributors.
