Deploying 5G AIoT in DigiWave to drive momentum for Kaohsiung’s design economy

The Kaohsiung City Government, in collaboration with the central government, established the “Asia New Bay Area 5G AIoT Innovation Park” featuring development of 5G and AIoT application services, making the Asia New Bay Area in Kaohsiung a pioneer of new generation technology applications. “DigiWave" is a tech and art exhibition brand, an extension from motion-sensing technology project that brings 5G-AIoT technology to everyday life through interactive games. It boosts the 5G penetration and creates a new business model for tourism in a form of approachable performances so as to prepare people for the metaverse era.

Since 2021, the City Government has been promoting the “Cultural Technology: Innovative 5G Vertical Application Project” to integrate resources of both upstream and downstream industries such as software and hardware, cultural innovation, and digital content as well as connect with the 5G AIoT industry chain. A number of notable projects were launched and have garnered awards at various major international competitions. In particular, the “DigiWave,” an annual exhibition focusing on digital technology and art in Kaohsiung, received the prestigious designation as a Platinum Winner in the 2022 MUSE Creative Awards.

In line with the 2022 Taiwan Design Expo, the City Government organized two major technology exhibitions “LOG ING — Into the Metaverse" and "2022 DigiWave" on a larger scale to present an unprecedented immersive multisensory experience by leveraging 5G AIoT, AR, VR, MR and metaverse to create innovative light and sound interactive installations. Featuring the theme of human technology evolution, the “DigiWave,” an exhibition that combines art and digital experiences, takes an early appearance with a bigger scale and extended exhibition period this year, and has become the most popular hit of the Taiwan Design Expo. The fair takes the former Peng-lai Commercial Port Area as the “Design Island” that is organized under various themes including industrial upgrading, circular design, floating fair, youth design, metaverse, and more, to launch a blend and re-evolution of digital technology and cultural content. It is expected to drive the momentum of Kaohsiung’s design economy, allowing Kaohsiung to rise and shine on the international stage.

The theme of "DigiWave" is to reflect on the impact of technology on the human senses. With the core concept of "Starting the National Mission: The Future.dw,” the exhibition collaborates with Brogent Technologies Inc., MoonShine Animation, Shooting Lab Limited, Fugu Fish Creations, and Synthetic Dosage Digital Sense Ltd., to create an ultrarealistic, about 330-square-meter closed circle, forging an unparalleled, digital art and participatory theater combining locked room challenge. Five-sense adventures are offered to both individual and group visitors to immerse themselves in technology wave of digital stories.
