Taiwan imposes sanctions on Philippines

In less than 24 hours on Wednesday, Taiwan imposed two sets of sanctions against the Philippines for its vessel’s killing of a Taiwanese fisherman while he was fishing in disputed waters of the South China Sea last week. Taiwan’s government said it found Manila’s apologies and response unacceptable.
In the first set of sanctions imposed after the expiration of the initial 72-hour deadline for the Philippines to respond, Taiwan recalled its top representative to the Philippines, ordered Manila’s de facto ambassador to leave and froze the processing of work permits for Filipino migrant workers.
