Taiwan has seen an increase in foreign direct investment in the past three years. With the U.S.–China trade war showing no signs of ending, more companies are now eyeing the island as an alternative to mainland China, as many products manufactured in the mainland will face higher tariffs when they are exported to the U.S. While worried about the potential impact of tariffs on Taiwanese companies manufacturing in China, Taiwan’s government is wasting no time in trying to encourage more foreign companies to set up manufacturing and R&D centers here and persuade Taiwanese companies to move back.
