More than 1,000 watermelons stood tall at noon in Jiadong Township, Pingtung County, on Friday, as crowds gathered for a Dragon Boat Festival event to celebrate the area's deep ties to watermelon farming.Drawing several thousand visitors, the fifth edition of the event offered a local spin on the traditional egg-balancing custom, in which people try to stand eggs upright at noon on Dragon Boat Festival for good luck. This year's event also featured its first watermelon styling contest, with 65 watermelons displayed in a designated area and decorated by participants with eye-catching designs.
