Pastor Chow Lien-hwa dies at age 96

Taipei, Aug. 6 (CNA) Chow Lien-hwa (周聯華), a pastor who was a spiritual advisor to the late President Chiang Kai-shek (蔣介石) and Madame Chiang, died of heart failure Saturday at the age of 96, Cheng Hsin General Hospital said.

Chow was rushed to Cheng Hsin's emergency room at 5:20 p.m. Saturday after he started feeling ill on his way from a gathering on Yangmingshan in Taipei, the hospital said.

On arrival at the emergency room, Chow had a faint heartbeat and shallow breathing, the hospital said. He was pronounced dead at 6:10 p.m. due to heart failure, after 50 minutes of emergency treatment, the hospital said.

According to the hospital, Chow had been on medication for a long time for heart problems such as cardiac arrhythmia and myocardial ischemia.

He was chairman of the Taiwan Baptist Christian Seminary and had served as chief pastor to the Grace Baptist Church in Taipei and chairman of World Vision Taiwan.
