New Judicial Yuan president assumes post

Taipei, Nov. 1 (CNA) Hsu Tzong-li (許宗力) assumed the post of president of the Judicial Yuan Tuesday and released his first wave of personnel appointments.

Hsu took over the helm of the Judicial Yuan from Rai Hau-min (賴浩敏) in a ceremony witnessed by Vice President Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁).

Hsu, 60, outlined his commitment to judicial reforms through insisting on the core values of the justiciary.

He appointed Lu Tai-lang (呂太郎), head of the Judges Academy, to serve as secretary-general of the Judicial Yuan, and Chou Chan-chun (周占春), a judge at the Taipei District Court, as head of the Judges Academy.

Both appointments have to be approved by President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文).

Hsu also announced the formation of a task force to push for judicial reform, with the secretary-general serving as convener. The task force will meet regularly to plan, promote and carry out the reforms.
