Taipei, Feb. 19 (CNA) The annual Flowers in Changhua festival kicked off at a park in Changhua County Thursday on the first day of the Year of the Goat.

The 2015 flower exhibition, being held at the Changhua Fitzroy Gardens (費茲洛公園), showcases plots of land growing various blossoming plants.

The flowers were planted to highlight several different goat-centered themes to celebrate the beginning of the new Lunar New Year, according to the Changhua County government.

In its ninth year, the county-organized festival attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, including people eager to buy flowers, the county government said.

In promoting the festival last week, county chief Wei Ming-ku invited people to taste local delicacies while appreciating the beauty of Changhua-grown flowers at the park.

The festival will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and run through March 1. Details in Chinese are available at the local government's official website at
