The Taipei Municipal Min Sheng Junior High School unveiled a co-ed restroom on its campus earlier this week, making it the first junior high school in Taiwan to have such a restroom, which can be used by anyone regardless of gender.
The Taipei City Department of Education has been encouraging schools to build non-gender-specific restrooms in an effort to promote gender equality on campus, and Min Sheng Junior High School was one of 22 schools that applied to build such bathrooms this year.
All urinals and toilets in the restroom are placed in separate stalls to protect the privacy of the user.
Unisex bathrooms are already present in government buildings and some universities in Taiwan, but are not commonly seen in high schools or vocational schools
