Taipei, Nov. 21 (CNA) MediaTek Inc.'s Q3 sales reached US$2.185 billion, making it the fourth-largest IC designer in the world, according to the Topology Research Institute.

In a press release published Wednesday, Topology said that apart from Qualcomm Inc., the Q3 sales of the 10 biggest IC designers grew year-on-year due to the growth of networking communication, data centers, automobile and consumer electronics.

Broadcom Inc.'s Q3 sales were US$4.989 billion, a 5.7 percent annual increase, which secured the company first place in the global IC industry, while Qualcomm was second, with its Q3 sales dropping to US$4.647 billion, a 0.1 percent annual decrease, Topology noted.

Thanks to the robust growth of computer gaming, data centers and automobile electronics, NVIDIA claimed third place with a 32.1 percent year-on-year rise to US$3.024 billion in Q3, the highest growth among the top 10 IC companies, the research institute added.

AMD ranked fifth with a Q3 revenue of US$1.653 billion, according to the advisory firm.

Benefiting from a merger with semiconductor company Cavium, Inc., Marvell Technology Group, Ltd. enjoyed a 28.2 percent sales increase to US$785 million in Q3, which put the company in sixth place globally, surpassing Xilinx, which ranked seventh with Q3 revenue of US$746 million, Topology pointed out.

Thanks to the high demand for touch and display driver integration (TDDI), display IC total solution provider Novatek Microelectronics Corp. saw a 24.3 percent revenue increase to US$514 million in Q3, taking it to eighth spot, ahead of Realtek Semiconductor Corp. and Dialog Semiconductor in ninth and 10th places, respectively, Topology said.
