Washington, Aug. 15 (CNA) Taiwan won its third championships at the 2018 Pony League baseball world series Wednesday, by defeating a team from the United States 3-1 in the final.

Following victories by Taiwanese teams in the 11-12 year-old and 17-18 year old categories, the 13-14 year old team was under a lot of pressure before the game, said Chiu Shih-teng (邱仕騰), the team's head coach.

Although the team from Long Beach, California took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, the New Taipei team (listed on the official website as Taipei County) from Taiwan scored three runs in the fifth inning and that was enough to win the championship at the 2018 Dick's Sporting Goods Pony League World Series.

Taiwan's starting pitcher, Tien Tzu-Chieh (田子杰) pressured the American team's batting by allowing just three hits, including one solo homerun, during his 6.2 innings' of pitching, according to the world series website.
