Taipei, June 7 (CNA) National Taiwan University (NTU) on Saturday said it will offer visiting student programs for individuals currently attending or newly admitted to universities in the United States.

NTU President Chen Wen-chang (陳文章) announced the program during a university council meeting, saying it was aimed at supporting students whose study plans in the U.S. may be disrupted following the U.S. government's ban on international students at Harvard University.

According to NTU's web page on the program, enrolled students will be registered as non-degree, full-time students for either one semester or one academic year and will receive official university credits upon completion.

Applications for the program will be open from June 16 to Aug. 15, with admission lists released in batches in July and August. The application fee is NT$15,000 (US$501.12), and students will be required to pay NT$40,000 upon registration, NTU said.

If students wish to complete their studies at NTU after the program, the university will also provide guidance for admission or transfer applications, it said.

For Taiwanese nationals, NTU will coordinate with the Ministry of Education to arrange transfer opportunities.

For international students, the university will assist with the latest international admissions process, allowing them to enroll as early as the second semester of the 2025-2026 academic year.

Chen said that the program hopes to help students whose plans have been disrupted continue with their studies in Taiwan as visiting students in light of recent events and is not targeting any country or school.

NTU will continue to welcome talented students to Taiwan, he said.

On May 28, Education Minister Cheng Ying-yao (鄭英耀) expressed his hope that Taiwan's top universities will welcome students registered at Harvard as international students may be affected by the ban.
