Taipei, Nov. 16 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has forecast that most areas of Taiwan will see cloudy to sunny conditions on Sunday, with rain expected in northern regions, the east coast, and the Hengchun Peninsula in the south.
Due to increased atmospheric moisture in windward areas, the CWA said Greater Taipei, its surrounding mountains, the Keelung North Coast, northeastern and eastern Taiwan, as well as the Hengchun Peninsula, could experience sporadic brief showers during the day.
Daytime highs are expected to reach 27-30 degrees Celsius in western Taiwan and 25-27 degrees in the east, while lows across the island will range between 19 and 22 degrees, according to the CWA.
The agency's website showed that the lowest temperature on Sunday was 15.2 degrees Celsius, recorded in Shoufeng Township in Hualien County and Guanxi Township in Hsinchu County.
Low temperatures will be more prevalent throughout next week when the strongest cold front observed so far this fall will arrive in Taiwan on Monday, said independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮).
Aside from lowering the mercury around Taiwan, the front will also bring moisture, which could make the nation wet and cold.
Wu said that on Monday, the front will bring rain to windward locations in northern, northeastern, and eastern Taiwan.
Atmospheric moisture will be most robust on Tuesday due to seasonal northeasterly winds, Wu said, adding that the moisture is expected to bring sporadic and brief showers to northern, northeastern, and eastern parts of the island.
Central and southern Taiwan will be comfortably warm on Tuesday, with cooler temperatures in the early morning and the evening.
Wu added that atmospheric moisture will ease up between Wednesday and Thursday, bringing chances of lighter rain to the Keelung North Coast, the eastern parts of Greater Taipei, and the northeastern parts of the island, which will make northern Taipei cool to cold.
