Taiwan's weather agency lifts tsunami alert

Taipei, Oct. 10 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said around noon Friday that the tsunami threat in the Pacific region had been lifted, two hours after it issued an alert following a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck the southern Philippine island of Mindanao.

The CWA first released a tsunami advisory at 9:56 a.m., after receiving notice from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) that a magnitude 7.4 earthquake had occurred in Mindanao at 9:44 a.m.

The PTWC initially assessed that the quake could pose a tsunami threat to the Pacific region.

At 12:01 p.m., the CWA issued a second advisory confirming, based on the PTWC's latest information, that the tsunami threat in the Pacific region had been lifted.
