Taiwanese no longer need license translation to drive in Estonia: MOFA

Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) Taiwanese nationals can now drive in Estonia for up to one year using an International Driving Permit (IDP), without needing an official Estonian translation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.

MOFA previously announced in February that the Estonian government would allow holders of a Taiwanese driver's license and an IDP, along with an official translation of that document, to drive in the Baltic state for stays under 12 months.

On Tuesday, Eric Huang (黃鈞耀), head of MOFA's Department of European Affairs, said the Estonian government has further relaxed the rules, removing the translation requirement for Taiwanese travelers.

MOFA welcomes the Estonian government's latest announcement, which is expected to benefit Taiwanese short-term business travelers and tourists, Huang said, adding that obtaining an official Estonian translation had been time-consuming and costly.
