Kinmen biennial games kicks off to show its vitality
Kinmen, Nov. 5 (CNA) Kinmen County Games opened on Thursday amid cheers ofparticipants at the county’s stadium. Kinmen’s Magistrate Yang Cheng-wu (楊鎮浯) said hosting the competition is the county’s pride, showing its vitality during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In addition to 5,024 athletes competing for three days, 955 performers and cheerleaders, judges, coaches and students took part in the opening of the sport event.
Yang said at the opening ceremony, the Games shows the vitality of the region while reflecting the competitiveness and culture of the place. Many events have been suspended due to the COVID-19 epidemic since the beginning of this year, however, the Games is held as scheduled because the county has zero confirmed cases as of today.
Yang also noted he was filled with a competitive spirit after seeing the spectacular scene of the opening ceremony. He believes the future of Kinmen will be as dazzling as the fireworks displayed at the night of the day.
Four athletes including Chen Yan-wei (陳彥維), Yang Su-wei (楊肅維), Tsai Yu-ling (蔡玉玲) and Li You-xuan (李宥萱) lighted the torch following the flag of Kinmen County Games entering the venue under the guidance of the marching band of Kinmen High School. Some other highlights of the event included the performances brought by the Kinmen Symphonic Band, local agencies, and local schools.
The three-day event features 11 types of sports such as basketball, badminton, softball, table tennis, taekwondo, swimming, cricket, tennis, relay race, and many others. The participating athletes competed in 11 different categories according to their gender, age, schools and agencies.
In addition, many local students studying in the main island of Taiwan returned and represented their hometown where their household registration is located, with the hope to win and bring honor to the place.
The competition took place in different locations, including Kinmen County Stadium, Juguanglou Cricket Groun Kinmen County Swimming Pool, Jinhu Elementary School, Zhongzheng Elementary School and others.(sponsored content)
