A different kind of weekend outing

During the recent Lunar New Year holiday, a lot of plastic garbage was washed down Tamsui River to the mangrove forest near Zhuwei and Hongshulin as well as other areas along the banks. The same team of boaters, environmentalists and other volunteers CNA featured in an earlier video has been gathering on weekends to pick up the trash. The organizers of the trash pickup are the Wilderness Association and Hand-built Wooden Boat Volunteers Group. They get together whenever they have time to pick up trash in the river and mangroves to prevent the garbage from flowing out to sea where it can do more damage to marine life. But the group has noticed a lot more trash since the holiday in February, and there's even large amounts of garbage tossed over the riverside bike trail. They need people with boats to take more volunteers out to the river to continue their cleanup efforts.
