Golden Melody Awards to feature star-studded lineup

Taipei, June 24 (CNA) The Golden Melody Awards ceremony, Taiwan's equivalent of the Grammys, is gearing up for a star-studded lineup this year, with singers including A-mei and Karen Mok set to heat up the night with their performances.

The ceremony on Saturday will feature performances by Taiwanese singers A-mei, Samingad Puruburubuane and Jam Hsiao, Hong Kong singer Karen Mok and Japanese singer Ken Hirai.

Taiwanese pop music band Sodagreen, punk-rock band 831, and hip hop trios MJ116 and Nine One One will also take to the stage to rock the audience, according to Taiwan Television Enterprise (TTV), which is jointly organizing the ceremony.

This year, 482 albums and 11,177 works were submitted for award consideration, and 128 nominated works will compete in 26 categories at the awards ceremony at Taipei Arena.

Sodagreen's album "Winter Endless" leads this year's nominees with eight nominations, including Best Mandarin Album, Best Band and Best Song of the Year.

The other nominees for Best Mandarin Album are: Peggy Hsu's "Swing, Inc.," Eli Hsieh's "Progress Reports," A-mei's "AMIT2," Tanya Chua's "Aphasia," and PoeTek's "∞Infinity."

In the category of Best Mandarin Female Singer, A-mei and Singapore's Chua will each be seeking their fourth Golden Melody best female vocalist award against competitors Hsu and Julia Peng of Taiwan, and Huang Qishan and Su Yunying of China.

Meanwhile, Singapore's JJ Lin will be vying for his second win in the category of Best Mandarin Male Singer. He will be pitted against Malaysian Chinese singer Namewee, China's Li Jian, and Taiwan's Ko Chih-tang and Matzka.

TTV will broadcast the red carpet event live at 5 p.m. and the awards ceremony live at 7 p.m. The ceremony will be hosted by TV personality Mickey Huang.

Viewers can also download the app "2016 GMA" and watch a live stream of the ceremony, red carpet event, and celebrity interviews on their mobile devices.

TTV's YouTube channel and Chunghwa Telecom's MOD TV channel will also provide a live stream of the Golden Melody Awards ceremony, which recognizes professionals who make music in Mandarin, Taiwanese, Hakka and Taiwan's aboriginal languages.
