Taipei, May 9 (CNA) The 2016 Cross-Strait CEO Summit (CSCS) will be held in November in Kinmen and Xiamen, a senior official of the CSCS on the Taiwanese side said Monday.

Steve R.L. Chen (陳瑞隆), secretary-general of CSCS Taiwan, said it will be the first annual meeting of the non-official organization to be held in cities on both sides of the Taiwan Strait since it was launched in 2013.

The opening ceremony of the meeting will be held in Kinmen and the discussions, seminars and closing ceremony will be held in Xiamen, China's Fujian Province, Chen said.

He declined, however, to reveal the exact dates of the gathering that is expected to attract a large number of entrepreneurs and experts from the two sides.

The CSCS was founded in July 2013 in Taipei and Beijing, serving as a platform for promoting cooperation between entrepreneurs from the two countries and bilateral dialogue on trade and economic development strategies.

Chen said choosing Xiamen as one of the two sites of the conference is based on its position as a starting city for China's "one belt, one road" initiative.

The initiative, proposed by China's leader Xi Jinping, is a development strategy that focuses on connectivity and cooperation among countries primarily between the People's Republic of China and the rest of Eurasia.

It consists of two main components, the land-based "Silk Road Economic Belt" (SREB) and ocean-going "Maritime Silk Road" (MSR).

The organization, headed by former vice president Vincent Siew (蕭萬長), has become one of the leading business groups in Taiwan, with 28 group members and 186 individual business members. The Chinese side of the organization is led by Zeng Peiyan, a former Chinese vice premier.

It has now created seven task forces to promote industrial cooperation across the strait, focusing on the macro economy, small- and medium-sized and emerging businesses, cultural and creative industries, information technology, household electronics, biotech, and health care.

Since its establishment, the CSCS has held its annual conferences in Nanjing, Taipei and Nanjing, in 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively.
