Kaohsiung, Sept. 22 (CNA) The beloved Rubber Duck sculpture made its return to a Kaohsiung pier Sunday under improving weather, to the delight of more than 100,000 spectators.
Fans started gathering near Glory Pier as early as Sunday morning to get a peep at the 18-meter-tall duck's reappearance after two days of storage to protect it form Typhoon Usagi.
The southern city recommends Love Pier as another place to get a good glimpse of Rubber Duck, the brainchild of Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman.
Other premier viewing spots include the roof of a nearby hotel or a cruise through the harbor, said Kaohsiung Information Bureau head Lai Jui-lung.
No ordinary bath toy, this duck comes in at 18 meters tall and 1,000 kilograms heavy, making it the largest of Hofman's Rubber Duck series to nest in Asia.
Rubber Duck attracted some 200,000 spectators to Glory Pier on Sept. 19, the first day of its display in the southern port city.
Kaohsiung is the first leg of Rubber Duck's migration around Taiwan, which will see it nest in Taoyuan and Keelung in the north.
Since 2007, Hofman's duck sculptures have visited 15 cities around the world, including Amsterdam, Sydney and Hong Kong.
