Taipei, April 24 (CNA) A Taiwanese balloon art team won a gold medal at the 2012 Balloon Arts Convention Italy in Florence on Tuesday.
The 10-member team assembled by Balloon Arts Taiwan (BAT), a local balloon art workshop, impressed the judges with their professional skills and balloon work that incorporates Taiwanese features, according to one of the members Lee Cheng-hao.
They designed an Earth God temple based on Taiwan's Koji pottery, stone and wood sculptures, using more that 10,000 balloons, Lee said.
It was a big challenge for the team to complete the project in the short period of three days, Lee added.
They used special technical skills to make the balloons look like real bricks in a temple wall, which led to the first place win, another team member Huang Hui-chuan said.
The team, which won a silver medal at the competition in 2011, is among eight groups from around the world that took part in the event April 19-21.
