Taipei, Sept. 20 (CNA) Export orders placed with Taiwanese manufacturers amounted to US$36.15 billion in August, down 1.5 percent from the year-earlier level, according to statistics released Thursday by the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

It also marked the sixth consecutive month in which the country's export orders posted negative growth amid slumping global demand, the ministry said.

In August, orders from China, Hong Kong and the six major economies of ASEAN -- Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam --continued to increase, but orders from the United States, Europe and Japan all dropped, according to the ministry's data.
