Kaohsiung, Dec. 9 (CNA) Taiwan's National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs) established an artificial intelligence alliance in Kaohsiung on Saturday to create a platform for businesses, government officials and academics to work together to develop the AI industry.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Vice President Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) said that he hoped the industry-academia alliance would help take Taiwan's AI industry onto the global stage.

Taiwan's advanced technology and its comprehensive supply chain of services can develop greater potential though the power of AI, Chen said.

NARLabs Chairman Yang Hung-duen (楊弘敦), who is also the convener of the AI alliance, said it will match the needs of businesses with research to jointly develop AI, which in turn will help drive the technological development and growth of the nation.

The alliance is aimed at bringing together talent, technology and industry resources to create a comprehensive ecosystem for the AI industry, he said.

The development of AI is seen as a key factor in national competitiveness and a core component of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
