New Delhi, Nov. 21 (CNA) A senior Indian science official presented a citation to Taiwan's MediaTek Inc. Tuesday for helping train cellphone engineers.

Ajay Prakash Sawhney, secretary of India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, thanked the integrated circuit designing company for implementing a program to train Indian engineers in Taiwan last year.

According to Grant Kuo (郭耿聰), managing director of MediaTek's subsidiary in India, the program was so well received in November 2016 that a more advanced level program will be offered in January 2018.

During the Global Conference on Cyberspace 2017, Sawhney also thanked Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, China and the United States for helping develop his country's electronics industry.

Companies from these countries have been operating well in India, helping to make it the world's biggest electronics R&D and manufacturing base, he added.
