Jakarta, Jan. 26 (CNA) Taiwanese badminton players Tai Tzu-ying (戴資穎) and Chou Tien-chen (周天成) advanced respectively to the women's and men's singles semifinals of the 2018 Indonesia Masters on Friday.

The world's top-ranked Tai knocked out fifth seed Sung Ji Hyun of South Korea 21-11, 21-8 in just 29 minutes, setting up a battle with eighth seed He Bingjiao of China.

Friday's performance was Tai's eighth consecutive win over Sung dating back to December 2016, and improved her lifetime mark against the South Korean to 17-9.

Tai opened up a 10-4 lead in the first game, and Sung would never get closer than four points the rest of the way. The second game was even more one-sided, with Tai running off 13 straight points to take a 16-3 lead before closing out the match.

As for her next opponent, Tai has defeated the 20-year-old He twice in three previous meetings, including a 21-14, 17-21, 21-8 victory in their most recent encounter at the Yonex French Open in October 2017, according to the Badminton World Federation.

The Taiwanese is hoping to reach a finals of a major event for the second straight week after finishing second at last week's Malaysia Masters.

Chou, meanwhile, defeated Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus of Denmark 15-21, 21-16, 21-18, and will next face Anthony Ginting of Indonesia.
