Taipei, Dec. 9 (CNA) Tennis duo Chan Yung-jan (詹詠然) and Martina Hingis were named the women's doubles world champions of the year by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), making the former the first Taiwanese to ever receive that honor.

The Taiwanese-Swiss duo, having won nine of the 15 events they entered since teaming up earlier in the year, can now add another accolade, the ITF's women's doubles world champions of the year title, to their long list of honors and awards.

While this is the third time that the now-retired Hingis has won the ITF's annual award for women's doubles, it is Chan's first time and she is the first Taiwanese tennis player to do so.

Chan said she and Hingis had an outstanding season this year and that she is very happy to end it with such a great track record.

The duo was named the 2017 Doubles Team of the Year by the Women's Tennis Association in October after they won their ninth title of the year.
