Taipei, Aug. 29 (CNA) Japanese athletes in the Taipei Universiade have been earning high praises in Taiwan since a series of photos of them cleaning a park was posted on social media Tuesday morning.

The photos, first posted by New Taipei City councilor Tsai Shu-chun (蔡淑君) on her Facebook page, show the Japanese athletes using brooms and dustpans to clean a park near the Universiade athletes village in the city's Linkou District.

Since the pictures were posted Tuesday morning, they have been shared more than 400 times, have gained more than 3,000 "likes," and have attracted many comments.

"Fantastic! The Universiade is coming to an end tomorrow, and Japanese athletes, carrying brooms and dustpans, are cleaning the environment at Linkou Community Sports Park on their own initiative," Tsai said in her post.

Many of the comments that followed were by people who praised the athletes and expressed appreciation for the volunteer effort.

"So moved! This is true sportsmanship, from which we can learn," one Facebook user wrote.

"This is true people-to-people diplomacy," someone else wrote. "Their likability is completely off the charts."
