'Manimal' Faried opens NBA 3X tournament in Taiwan
Taipei, Aug. 10 (CNA) Budding NBA star Kenneth Faried of the Denver Nuggets helped launch the NBA 3X tournament in Taiwan on Saturday, offering his congratulations to organizers at the tournament's opening ceremony in New Taipei.
The 23-year-old also got a taste of Chinese culture when he used calligraphy to write the name of the Aug. 10-24 tournament.
In setting up the tournament with Taiwanese partners, the NBA hopes to provide local players an opportunity to hone their skills and compete among their peers, according to event organizers.
The NBA 3X Taiwan is a 3-on-3 tournament in which teams compete in five different divisions. Each division has a different top prize, with the highest NT$50,000 (US$1,670).
